Association remains committed to the Standard of Excellence set by YMCA Canada

Grand Falls-Windsor, NL — The Exploits Valley YMCA is aware of the recent media coverage involving childcare centres operated by other YMCA associations in Newfoundland and Labrador. While these organizations operate independently from our association, we understand that incidents like these can raise concerns among families in our community.

We want to reassure parents and guardians that the safety and well-being of every child in our care remains our highest priority.

At the Exploits Valley YMCA, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of child safeguarding across all our licensed childcare programs. We continuously review and strengthen our policies, procedures, and staff training to ensure they reflect current best practices and align with the standards of excellence established by YMCA Canada.

This includes:
• Ongoing staff training in supervision, risk management, and child protection
• Regular review and reinforcement of safety protocols and daily practices
• Clear accountability measures and supervision procedures in all environments
• Adherence to all provincial childcare regulations and licensing requirements

We also believe in maintaining open, transparent communication with families and fostering environments where children feel safe, supported, and always cared for.

While we cannot comment on the specifics of incidents involving other YMCA associations, we remain committed to learning from best practices across the sector and continually strengthening our own programs.

Families in the Exploits Valley can feel confident that we take our responsibility seriously and provide a safe, nurturing, and high-quality childcare experience for every child we serve.

For any questions or concerns, families are encouraged to reach out to us directly.
